Why we only make one thing

We did not set out to build a brand. We set out to fix a mask.

Every flat sleep mask fails in the same two ways, and neither of them is about the fabric. It lies on your eyelids, so it presses on the softest tissue on your face for eight hours at a time. And it bridges the nose in a straight line, which a nose is not, so it leaks light exactly where you are least likely to notice it and most likely to be woken by it.

Moulded cups fix both at once. The cups sit on the brow bone and the cheekbone — bone, not tissue — and arch over everything in between, so there is a pocket of still air over each eye all night. The bridge is moulded to follow a face rather than span it, which closes the two triangles of light a flat mask leaves. Everything else about the mask exists to make that shape work when you turn over.

The silk

Momme is how the weight of silk is measured. Most silk sold for bedding is 19 momme; 22–25 is the heavy end. Ours is 23 momme, grade 6A mulberry silk on both faces, which is dense enough to be genuinely opaque and heavy enough to hang rather than cling. It is also smooth, so it does not drag at skin, and it moves heat and moisture away instead of holding them against you.
